If you've been looking into work at home jobs, Convergys might be a good option. I've reviewed several of these phone jobs already, and this is one that I've had on my list that I'm just now getting around to discussing.
Convergys is a rather large company — they have many employees all over the U.S., and they occasionally hire in the U.K. and in Canada as well!
Here's a brief rundown on how it all works:
What is the Convergys pay?
Pay at Convergys may actually be a little on the low side. I can't find an exact number because they make their employees sign non-disclosure agreements, but I've seen figures quoted ranging from $7 per hour up to as much as $12 per hour.
I kind of get the idea that people doing technical support might earn more. U.S. agents are paid once every two weeks via either direct deposit or through a pay card option. People in the U.K. are paid monthly. They don't list the frequency of pay for Canadians unfortunately.
What are the requirements to apply?
You need at least a high school education or GED equivalent and you must be at least 18 years old or older. A background in customer service is not required, but may help your chances of getting on here.
As stated above, the company hires from the U.K. and Canada as well as the U.S., although their employment needs for these countries vary. Due to this, it's a good idea to keep an eye on their website to see if they have openings at any given time.
As of the date of this blog post, Convergys does not need workers from the U.K. or Canada, but they are hiring in the U.S. within certain states. I don't want to list the states here because I'm sure they change on fairly regular basis and my info might become outdated. You can view this link to see if they are hiring in your state and also to see if they have openings in the U.K. or Canada.
The company will also do a background check on you. If hired, you'll need to be able to ensure no background noise. This means that working around small children (or big children who are loud) and pets that are noisy is a no-no.
If there's no way you can eliminate background noise at your house, you may want to read this post with a list of phone jobs where background noise is OK or this list of flexible work at home phone jobs.
What about technical requirements with Convergys?
You need high-speed internet, a headset, and a computer that is wired in (no wireless). From what I've read, you can use a Voip phone, but your internet speed has to pass their connection test.
How does the application process work for Convergys?
You can fill out the application form directly on the Convergys website and upload your resume, then take and pass the computer/software test, complete a video interview and phone interview. At the end of the first phone interview, you may be contacted for a second and final phone interview.
What are the required Convergys hours?
There are lots of different shifts available at Convergys. Some people work during the day, some in the evening, and some people work the graveyard shift. They have both full-time and part-time positions available ranging from 16 to 40 hours per week.
You agree to your schedule when you're hired and they expect you to stick to it. You can bid for shifts you want.
Does Convergys offer work at home benefits?
Yes, they do. You can get health insurance, life insurance, 401K, and paid time off. However, these benefits are not a given for each person who works here.
There are also occasionally other incentives. For example, some Convergys workers take calls for a popular satellite company. In return for this, they get free satellite service!
Some people don't qualify for benefits because they're on lines that are temporary or because of their location. So if benefits are a must for you, be sure and ask about what you'll receive during your interview.
What are the Convergys reviews so far?
The reviews are mixed … but this is no surprise because the company is pretty large. There are both happy and unhappy campers. However, Convergys seems to hire on a regular basis and I didn't read enough negatives not to post about them.
Work at home jobs in Canada and the U.K. are also something that I want to focus more on since I do get lots of inquiries from people from these areas looking for work in call centers at home, and I was happy to see that Convergys is occasionally open to applications from these places.
Where do you submit the Convergys application to get started?
