TeleXpertise is a company I’ve been hearing about lately that hires people to work from home doing a few different jobs, but the one I’m going to focus on today is their telephone mystery shopper positions. On the website, it says not to expect to make more than maybe $75 your first month. So, at best this is just a way to make extra money.
Please note that TeleXpertise may or may not be actively hiring at the time of this review.
What do TeleXpertise telephone mystery shoppers do?
You make phone calls to various places throughout the country and ask specific questions. Like for example, TeleXpertise might need you to call a business and find out their hours, or who the manager is, or maybe to ask if they have a certain product. Or you might have to ask all those things.
You are of course supposed to be a “shopper” so you wouldn’t reveal that you’re working for TeleXpertise. You’re just supposed to sound like someone who genuinely is interested in the information.
Unlike most other phone jobs, you won’t have to provide a quiet background since you’re supposed to sound like a real person and not an operator. So doing this around your kids or pets should be fine as long as they don’t keep you from getting the information you need.
How much are you paid?
TeleXpertise advertises that they pay their mystery shoppers between $3 and $10 per completed shop (phone call). You are paid per phone call, so it’s not a per hour job.
What is the scheduling like?
You can work more or less when you want, provided you’re calling during business hours. Again, this is barely even part-time work. Just something to do occasionally for extra cash.
What are the requirements to sign up at Telexpertise?
The website says you need at least some previous mystery shopping experience (they do not specify phone or non-phone mystery shopping, it just says mystery shopping). I have no idea how strict they are on this requirement, but if you really want to do this, getting mystery shopping experience isn’t that hard. Here is a list of many mystery shopping companies to register with.
How much work can you expect?
They do not give their new workers a ton of work to start. TeleXpertise wants to be sure you can do the work before giving you lots of assignments.
Many people report not getting that much work to do the first month or so, but there are others who stuck it out for longer and see an increased number of assignments. I think this is similar to what you do for Call Center QA, although Telexpertise likely provides more assignments.
Is this an employee or independent contractor position?
You are taken on as independent contractor for TeleXpertise, so of course this means keeping up with your taxes is your responsibility. Taxes are not deducted from your payments.
What do people say about TeleXpertise?
I did some research, and people who have done work for them claim the company pays on time. I couldn’t find anything about this company that would make me hesitate to review it here.
If you have any experience with Telexpertise, please comment below! I’d love to get more feedback.
