Tips for Success on Freelance Websites

April 3, 2013 1 comment by

freelance-bidding-sitesI used to believe that freelance websites like Elance and oDesk were mostly a waste of time because it seemed all the work was being offered to people who were willing to work for less than minimum wage.

Since then, I’ve realized that freelance sites may not be a complete waste of time at all. In fact, many freelancers are successfully establishing themselves on these sites, finding long-term clients, and getting paid handsomely for their hard work. So how does this happen? How can you make these sites worth your while?

I did a lot of research today and found some tips that will hopefully work for you. These sites should not be ignored as a viable option for home-based…

ziptask review

Ziptask is a newer site for freelancers that may interest you if you are looking for flexibility combined with good pay (as most of us are in a work from home job). To me, this seems like a sort of cross between Fancy Hands (which is a pay-per-task virtual assisting company) and freelancer sites like oDesk, Elance, etc because there is something there for almost every skill set, with the difference there being that you do not have to get into a bidding war for the jobs you want as you do on most other freelancer sites.

Bidding for Jobs on the Freelancer Website

Bidding for Jobs on FreelancerJust this morning, I created an account at Freelancer.com. I admit that in the past, I have shied away from sites like Freelancer, odesk, and Elance because I feared that I would not be able to get a fair rate of my pay for my work. But I’ve recently had a pretty good run of things on an odesk project I’m part of, and that combined with the fact that I’ve heard some positive things about these sites has given me a little more faith that if I really put a lot of work into my portfolio and refuse to work for less than I think I’m…

Making Money on FiverrFiverr is super popular right now — so much so that it has spawned countless clone sites, a few of which I have talked about here. But I’ve never actually reviewed Fiverr itself, so here is a quick rundown:
What is Fiverr?
Fiverr is something that many people refer to as a a “micro job” site. Basically, you just post a service you are willing to offer for $5. This could be almost anything — graphic design, writing, editing, or something really off the wall. The bizarre ones are always kind of fun to read over. As long as it’s legal and doesn’t violate the Fiverr terms of service, you can really use…

Find Freelance Work on Elance

Find freelance workToday’s post is going to center around Elance — a site where you can sign up and get paid for doing almost any type of freelance work. I should preface this by saying that there are definitely some problems with Elance in regard to working from home, but it can also be useful. People have had varying experiences there, but most of the complaints I see point to the same problem — the providers (people looking for workers) tend to want extremely cheap labor and are often willing to bypass experienced, knowledgeable people who want to be paid what they are worth just to get that. So now that that is out of…
