If you’ve ever wanted to work in healthcare but didn’t think you could because you don’t have a degree, you’ll be glad to know there are some ways to get your foot in the door without going back to school!

Many healthcare employers now offer remote positions that only require a high school diploma or some minimal customer service experience.

These jobs could be great options if you want to earn steady pay from home while doing work that helps people!

Below are several remote healthcare jobs that are open now, followed by five types of healthcare work you can do from home without a college degree, plus examples of companies that regularly hire for them.

PHIL – Patient Support Specialist (Tier 1). Remote in AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, MA, MI, MO, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI, or WV. Full-time. Answer patient calls, emails and texts about prescriptions, pricing, enrollment and orders. No degree requirement is listed; one year of customer-support experience and one year of healthcare experience are required. Shifts fall between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Pacific on weekdays and 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekends and holidays; occasional overtime and holiday work may be required. Lyra Health – Billing Specialist. Remote in the United States. Full-time; exact hours are not listed. Help families starting behavioral healthcare understand insurance coverage, estimated costs and payment options, answer financial questions and document interactions. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, at least two years of healthcare customer service, patient access, medical billing or insurance-verification experience, and knowledge of insurance and prior authorizations. A related college degree is preferred, not required. Pays $26/hour. Benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance, paid time off, paid parental leave, a 401(k) match of up to 3% and a monthly technology allowance.

Foundation Risk Partners / Arbor Benefit Group – Stop Loss Administrative Support Assistant. Remote in the U.S. Organize claims and underwriting documents, track reports, prepare review forms, enter premium payments and maintain records. Requires prior insurance-carrier medical-claims experience in a support, service or claims-auditor role, typing at least 55 WPM, and Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat skills. An associate degree is preferred, not required. A spreadsheet assessment is required. Pay and exact hours are not listed. Interwell Health – Member Support Coordinator. Remote in the United States. Work Monday–Friday, 10:30 a.m.–7 p.m. Central. Answer high-volume inbound calls from patients and providers, handle general questions and clinical referrals, and connect callers with the appropriate care team. Requires at least one year of customer-service or administrative-support experience and familiarity with Microsoft Office. Healthcare or inbound contact-center experience is preferred. No college degree requirement is listed in the job description or application. Pay is not disclosed.

WellSky – Remote Call Center Representative / Sleep Coach. Remote in GA, AL, TN, LA, NC, or TX. Full-time, 40 or more hours weekly. Make outbound calls to patients, promote and sell CPAP supplies, facilitate reorders, and support patient satisfaction and retention. Requires a high school diploma or GED; no minimum prior experience is stated. WellSky provides the required equipment. Starts at $15/hour, increasing to $16 after one year.

1. Telehealth Customer Service Representative

Telehealth support specialists help patients schedule appointments, answer questions, and use virtual care systems. You’re not providing medical advice in these jobs. Instead, you’re helping with the technology and making sure people have a good experience.

These jobs are perfect if you have a calm, helpful personality and strong communication skills.

Typical requirements: High school diploma or GED, customer service background, good computer skills, and comfort using video or chat software.

2. Medical Billing and Insurance Claims Specialist

Medical billing and coding jobs are some of the most in-demand remote healthcare roles. In these jobs, you process insurance claims, check codes for accuracy, and make sure doctors and hospitals get paid correctly.

While most coding positions DO require certification, it’s sometimes possible to find entry-level billing roles where you are trained on the job.

A virtual medical assistant handles the admin side of healthcare. This is typically things like scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, entering patient data, and following up on test results. Similar to virtual assistant work, but you’re doing it for a med office.

These tasks can all be done from home using secure healthcare systems!

Typical requirements: High school diploma, strong organization skills, ability to type and navigate electronic health record systems.

Health coaches are tasked with helping their clients make better lifestyle choices around nutrition, exercise, and stress management. In these positions, you’re not acting as a medical professional, but rather more like a motivator and accountability partner. These jobs have become much more common as telehealth and wellness apps have grown in popularity.

Typical requirements: Usually no degree needed, though training in fitness, nutrition, or mental health is a plus. You should be encouraging, goal-oriented, and good at keeping clients on track.
