Do You Want SlicethePie To Pay You For Listening To Music?

Something I've been doing a little of the last few days is Slice the Pie — a site that will actually let you get paid to listen to music!

Before you read any further, you should know that doing this is definitely just an extra money thing. BUT it's a really fun one and the extra money you can earn will likely amount to a bit more than small change.

Slice the Pie:

Slice the Pie allows music artists to submit their stuff so that you, the listener, can give them valuable feedback on it.

For the most part, you'll be listening to stuff by newer musicians who haven't really made it yet.

You are called a “scout” and you get to listen to tracks. Then, you rate them, and write reviews.

Artists that get rated the highest get to be a part of Slice the Pie's showcase, and you are given the option of supporting them. In return for your support, you can get free music and merchandise from these artists.

Update 8/19/15 – Slice the Pie is now paying people to rate and review fashion in addition to music! How cool is that??

How You Earn Money With Slice the Pie

As stated above, you get paid for rating and reviewing tracks by new artists. You have to listen to at least 90 seconds of a song before you can leave your review. The longer and more detailed your review, the more you can earn.

Remember, reviews must be written in good English. In addition, you have to put some thought into what you write. They will know if you are trying to game the system and speed through things.

The exact amount of pay you can receive varies depending on a few different factors, including your star rank and experience. If your reviews are consistently good quality, your star rank will go up and so will your pay.

Below shows where I'm at:

slice the pie stars

And at the three star rating, I reviewed a song and …

So yeah … I won't be breaking the bank with Slice the Pie writing reviews. But it only took me a couple of minutes to listen and write my review. And I did enjoy the song I was hearing, so there's that.

How to Get Paid With Slice the Pie

Once you have earned $10, you can request your earnings via Paypal.

Slice the Pie makes payments every Tuesday and Friday. So if you have enough to cash out and you want to get paid on Tuesday or Friday, you'll have to log in and request your funds by midnight the night before.

Just put in your date of birth, the amount you want to take out (has to be an even number, $10 or less) and click “withdraw.” That's it! And in the four or five years I've been a member here, I can promise you they have never missed a payment I requested.

Does Slice the Pie Limit Your Number of Reviews?

I don't think so. I've always been able to just sit there and review as many songs as I want. I suppose at times they may run out. But as you know this is just an extra money gig. I wouldn't depend on it to pay my bills, just something fun to do in your downtime.

As per the title of this post, $10 a week should be possible. Some people make even more than that.

Who can sign up for Slice the Pie?

People who are 13 and up can use Slice the Pie to earn money, which makes it an ideal way for teens to earn money online.

The company is based out of the United Kingdom, but anyone from anywhere in the world is eligible to create an account. However, it is necessary to have a Paypal account to get paid because this is the only payment method offered.

My Opinion of Slice the Pie So Far

I think Slice the Pie is really fun, interesting way to earn some extra money and help new artists get some much needed feedback and publicity. People really enjoy it and are surprised by how quickly the small change adds up here.

I've read a few reports online of people who have been able to get around $200 per month for doing this. I'm not sure that's typical. I also don't know how much time would have to be put in in order to earn that much.

Overall, I enjoy participating on occasion and I can honestly say I've already come across some new music that I really like.

  1. I don’t know if this site has changed its payment policies, but I don’t even feel that it’s a legitimate side gig. They still offer music reviews, but now they have options for clothing and home goods (basically the same blanket in different colors) reviews, as well. I’ve written, so far, 15 detailed and lengthy reviews (8-10 sentences). I’ve proofread all my reviews, and still I am at one star! And I’m only getting .01 per review. So, that works out to .15 for about 2 hours of my time! I’m wondering if this is normal and I should stick with it, or if STP doesn’t like me for some reason.

    • Hmm, sounds like they have reduced pay since I was doing it. I’ll have to look into this and possibly update the review. Thank you.

      • The first couple reviews you do only get you paid .01, but once you review a couple it goes up. I started last night and only made .01 per each one, but after a few more without changing my review lengths the pay went up. I was even paid .25 for one review today!

  2. Thanks a lot Anna, I am looking for any real survey company which pays via credit card / bank account, because my country ( Ghana ) does not support paypal.

  3. I love this! It will give me something to do at night time while everyone is asleep and i’m wide awake making extra dough!!

  4. As a music lover and person who spends a lot of time in front of the laptop, I love the fact that Slicethepie exists! I’m only at $1.51, so I have a long way to go until I reach the minimum for payout. But I think I’ll be able to accomplish it within the next week and a half. The website was recently having technical issues, but everything is back to normal now.

    • You can withdraw $26, it just has to be even dollar amounts. So like for example if you had $26.50, you would have to just leave the extra .50 cents in there.

      • Hi, I’m not sure why you would get an error, unless for some reason they do not allow sign-ups from India. You may want email them through their contact form to find out if they allow sign ups from India.

  5. I just started this very new to me how do you do a review I rated and it wont go through please help me

    • There should be a text box where you can write your review out after you give a number rating. After you type that, you should be able to submit it.

  6. How you guys making money with STP, as I signed up and get a message
We don’t have any suitable tracks for you to review, please try again later

  7. You need to be careful,do not repeat yourself with the comments, use different words and make every single one unique.
I agree that website will cheat you as soon as you make money.
They locked my account and i never get back to my account. When i send an email to them they explain something really stupid.
I don’t recommend the site to make money AT ALL!!!!

  8. I have been locked out of my STP account more than once and in each case I hadn’t done anything wrong. I hope they can keep unlocking it.

  9. DO NOT USE SLICE THE PIE. It will take you hours on end to complete your reviews and that would be no problem as long as there was a guarantee for your payment. I have spent long honest hours on my reviews and finally in the end they send me a private e-mail telling me that I will not be receiving my payment. They say my english is not good enough. I am American, and english is my first language. This website can and will cheat you as soon as you make enough money. DO NOT USE SLICE THE PIE.

  10. I joined STP about a month ago, and have already made about $140 using it. I would recommend this site to anyone who wants easy extra cash. I’m on Platinum level, and make anywhere from .13-.17 cents per review. You have to be careful with this site, because they are quick to lock your account! (I’ve had mine locked twice, but they reopened it within a couple of days) You really have to obide by the terms&conditions, and write original, honest reviews (i.e. if you absolutely hate a song, give it a 0 rating, and say you hate it because..etc) You actually get paid MORE..(why I made $140 in a months time). This website is not for slow typers or uncreative minds..you WILL get bored. Good luck!

  11. I win 2.00 now with the slicethepie but now I have to reach the 10 to paid me.
    check the link
    please.
    and Good luck.
It’s a great oportunity to begin win money

  12. The pay at slicethepie.com is a joke. I have no idea where their revenue stream comes from, or what they use this data for, but I feel like I’m shilling for a major label with every track. Ten cents (at best) per track, for more than 150, very detailed words, is an insult.

  13. This site is great! I just started last night and reviewing music is so fun. You get to give helpful critics that help a rising star and you get paid for it. I love it. Everyone should give it a try. Thanks for posting about this !

Give it a shot, you will have a blast

  14. At first I wasn’t sure whether it would be worth the time, being that to some extent you do have to be creative while reviewing a song from an honest standpoint. But after a few reviews it not only became easier to comment, but it also help me to actually realize what is it that makes a song ‘good’ for me. You definitely expand your music vocabulary and widen out your taste in music. Over all, it can be a fun and productive way to spend some free time.

  15. First just let me say, thank you so much for this blog. It’s so helpful, and I really appreciate you taking the time to put it together.

I found Slice the Pie through your site. You won’t make a ton of money, but it can be a fun way to make a little bit of extra. I actually got an offer shortly after I started to rate some fashion selections as well, and that made extra money too. I’ve cashed out once already, and they paid me very quickly. While occasionally, I’ll run into a song I have a hard time reviewing, or have a hard time making any positive comments on, I’d recommend it to other people. It’s a pretty fun way to make a little bit of extra money here and there!

    Thanks again!

  16. @ Alyssa, I concur with your advice. It is not the length of the response but the quality of the content. In fact, if anyone has taken an introductory to music class, then they could utilize the precise terminology in descriptive terms. Plus, the rating should match the review. In other words, do not rate a song a “9” and then talk about how it is okay or average sounding. In addition, it is a great idea to use powerful critique because that is why the song is posted there in the first place. If they were all great songs, they would already be on the radio/music charts.

I am going to log-in to the Slice the Pie site when I can, as I, too, am struggling through a period of unemployment. I will be happy when I achieve a regular occupational scenario! Until then, I love checking in with Real Ways to Earn Money Online because the tips have been priceless (helpful). All my extra compensation has occurred from such tips and insight. I appreciate being able to dodge the scams and fraudulent offers that pop-up elsewhere. Thanks to Anna Thurman!! Cheers!

Lastly, whenever I have anything insightful to help others, I am sure to post it. It is all about helping each other.

    • Thank you, Heather! I appreciate it.

Slice the Pie is still one of my favorite side earners. I have never had any complaints there, and they pay reliably.

  17. I am newer to slice the pie but I am currently unemployed so I have lots of time to dedicate to the site. I average around $20 a day spending 3 hours working on tasks on and off. I make between $80-$160 per week. Honestly, the trick isn’t in how much you write it is the quality of the reviews you submit. I write 4 sentences for each review and get between $0.15 to $0.25 per review. I am loving this site and I make just as much at it as I would at a part time job. Honest work for honestly hard working people.

    • Wow congrats…I wish I earned as much as you lol… somehow I never manage to earn more than $0.08. I try to write better and longer reviews but I never manage to increase my rank and earnings >_<

  18. I am doing very well with this site. I have made over 50 dollars in 2 months and only spent a few concentrated days doing the work. It is best to do this when you can be focused. Do not write too much nor too little. Watch TV or something else while you do it so that you do not become bored. If you are a fast typist you can do very well.

My average is 3 paragraphs of 2 sentences each. I am making about 11 cents per review. It is important to use very clear and precise language and to address why the music is poor or good and its commercial viability. They are always asking for one to rate the elements of the music. They want you to name the genre and its crossover genres and how the music will appeal to which group. Do not give away easy ratings. Hammer hard against music that uses profanity and is not good for the airwaves. Those reviews where I have mentioned this and rated the music a 0, 1, or 2 have paid me the most.

I am retired, so I do have time. If I spent about 4 hours per day on this I think I could easily make about 10 dollars on 80 plus reviews per day. The point is that I do this as a relaxation. It is a secondary thing I do while reading emails. I listen to the entire song usually and log in after the second minute to write my quick 3 paragraphs. I find this easy and the PayPal on it credits very fast. Completely Legit Site. Love it.

  19. Thank you for listing this website I already cash out after two days on Monday and received it on Tuesday.

  20. I’ve found some other websites that rewards for listening to music. http://www.bubblews.com/news/460051-5-ways-to-make-money-by-listening-to-music-online

  21. I just joined the site about 30 mins ago and have already made my first 1.00. It appears you can skip songs if you hit scout – but I did find out a few of them will find their way back to you. I was making .17 cents for each song review I did. After about 10 songs my rate went down to 5-7 cents per song. I’m not sure why because my reviews have gotten longer – and more detailed after following the hints they give you. It seems like even if you give the song an overall high review the system will popup and say the review doesn’t match the rating and it will allow you to change it. Also I have noticed there are songs playing from a genre I didn’t select. So I do think there are a few kinks in the system, but nothing that would make me quit doing this all together especially since I already listen to music 99% of the time I’m in front of my computer. Why not get paid for it too right? Also the energy bar isn’t an issue for me, by the time I listen to one song, write a review and click for the next song, my energy is back up to 10. Also my first review was shorter that what they wanted, and there was a little pop up window telling me to add more to it. I’m not sure what the minimum word amount is -but it is easy to add to it if need be. They will also let you know if your punctuation is horrible. I tried to test to see if It would tell me and it threw a warning about taking a breather to review my punctuation. At least the site has a bit of a humor.

Anna I found your website / blog a couple of days ago from WAHM and have been scouring over it with a fine tooth comb getting ready to start gathering some eggs. What an awesome site – I wish I would have found it a few years ago. Thank you for posting all of the reviews and helping all of us get a better feel for companies and what the jobs entail!

    • Thanks for the compliments, Katie! So glad you are enjoying Slice the Pie. Some of the songs do pay more and then some pay a lot less. There is a reason behind that but I can’t recall what it is right now. I love Slice the Pie, they pay very promptly 🙂

  22. You know, I did some work for Slice the Pie since last February. I haven’t had much trouble getting payment from them until now. They sent me an email saying my reviews didn’t match my ratings so they’re withholding my paypal earnings. 🙁 It’s about time I give up.

  23. Songs are back, but now only 5 or 6 cents per review. Is this site sort of a bait and switch? They lure you in with good rates, then drop them? I’m at level 27, so decent level.

    • I think it depends on whether or not the song is by an anonymous artist. You’ll notice that some say “Anonymous” and those tend to pay more. But when the artist is listed, it pays less.

  24. Just signed up today, got to almost $9 and they said there weren’t any more songs for me to rate even though my rating is at 64% which seems pretty good, 2/3 of way to gold. Hopefully there will be more soon.

  25. There is a lot of new music on here…BUT once I got higher up in rank- I have had many many VERY popular songs come on as well. So it is a good mix of both. I make around 20 cents per song, I try to make sure I write 3-4 sentences to get the most out of it. I have made $15 so far in maybe 4 nights, I am waiting til I make more to cash out, but you can do so at $10 which doesn’t take very long at all! http://www.slicethepie.com/?wyd=442584

  26. The best way to earn more money from slice the pie is to write longer review. I make about two to the dollars a day by writing longer reviews. You must notice the bar below after you write each review and try to notice how much you make if you write longer reviews.

  27. I’m a little late to the party here (hardy har har), but I just now actually started on SliceThePie, though I’ve been a member for a bit. It’s pretty darn fun! I started off making 4-7 cents each and after doing 5 songs, I was suddenly making 16-18 cents! It didn’t take me long at all to make my first dollar. This is easy and it’s fun, though it wouldn’t be a big earner. I think it’s kind of cool how it can tell the tone of your review and compare it to your rating. It also seems to know what topics you’ve covered in the review.

Apparently, it has a new setup and you can’t change your genre preferences once you’ve picked them. So, be warned!

  28. I had fun playing around with this one tonight! I am going to keep trying it when I need a change of pace.

  29. I just started the other day. This is a fun little gig. My 3 yr old daughter likes it too since she likes to dance. She keeps telling me more music.

  30. I think this site is amazing. I just joined, it’s very easy, listening to music is fun for everybody, and when your done just type in a few thoughtful sentences and you make almost .25 cents….it adds up.

    Thanks.

  31. I think I signed up there a really long time ago and never gave it much thought after that.
I do many many things where the pay is low and it takes a while to build up so I think at the time I was looking for something where I could earn more money but I think I will come back to this when I am taking a break from studying.
It never hurts to earn a little bit of money by doing something you already do everyday 🙂

  32. Before reading your post, I had never heard of SlicethePie. I signed up yesterday and I’ve already made $7. It can get tiring listening to song after song, but it is indeed an easy way to make extra cash. Thanks for the tip.

  33. When I started, the payout rate was much lower, but I started again with the promotion and made $10 in one night. What I do is I alt tab during my regular email/facebook/fun browsing when I am not working (so I’m not wasting time I could work.) tab back to it after a few seconds, rate and skip to the next song. My goal is $8 a night and that is my fun spending money. 😉 I definitely will not do this anymore once the promo ends, though. It’s great that they add special funds you can only use to fund indie artists.

    • By the way, I asked for a withdrawal of my funds twice, 2 days ago and then yesterday and I got both deposited into my Paypal this morning! It’s really fast.

      • Slice the Pie did not payout at all in my case. I requested the payout, emailed and nothing.

        • That’s really strange, Mercedes. I have cashed out multiple times and always received it. In fact, they paid me on Tuesday of this week. If I were you, I would keep trying to contact them. I think they have a forum. Did you post there about not receiving your payment?

  34. I just join yesterday, and I am already at $8 bucks. I hope it does the earning does not go back down to the 0.2cents. I thinks too low of a payment. But it is fun and easy! I love this site about making money online!!!

  35. I haven’t tried Slice The Pie yet but it seems like a really fun way to make money. I love listening to music anyway, so I’ll more than likely give this a try 🙂

  36. I’ve been using Slice the Pie for a while now…when I started payout was only $5 but as you already said in this post, it’s $10 now, and I hate that…but right now they actually have a promotion going on (they didn’t say how long it will last) but they’ll give you $0.15 for every song you rate, no matter what your scout rating is. So I got on there and rated songs until I made about $13 but then I was sick and tired of listening to the songs they have on there right now (most of them suck lol)…so I went ahead and requested payout.

  37. I like slice the pie a lot! It gets hard coming up with new and original things to say in the reviews so I don’t do it a whole lot. But I have been trying to make it a goal to do a dollar a day. Nice way to break up TQA
