A while back I wrote a little about merchandising as a flexible way to earn money.
The work isn't done at home or online, but it's ideal for people who need flexible schedules because it's often the case that the work can be done on your own time. Hallmark is one major company that regularly hires merchandisers to come in and maintain the greeting card departments in various retail stores.
What does the job of a retail merchandiser for Hallmark entail?
If you do merchandising for Hallmark, you'll be restocking cards, putting in orders for cards that have run out, and straightening up greeting card displays. You'll be given a small hand-held computer while you work for doing inventory auditing.
In addition to retail merchandisers, Hallmark also hires installation workers. This work might be a little more physically demanding than retail merchandising because you will be putting together and taking apart displays.
How much does Hallmark pay for retail merchandising?
Hallmark doesn't list the rate of pay on their website, but from what I've been reading it actually varies depending on the state you live in. I've done a little digging around, and so far I've seen where some people say they make $7 an hour while a few others said it is around $10 per hour.
You can get promoted to field manager (a person who oversees other merchandisers in an area). Your pay will go up when that happens.
How many hours per week are you required to work as a Hallmark merchandiser?
The work is 100 percent part-time and you can work between 3 and 20 hours per week. This goes for both the retail merchandising and display installation jobs.
You can work any hours you want as long as the stores you are assigned are open. There is a chance that you may occasionally be required to work just before or just after some major holidays.
Is Hallmark always hiring for merchandisers?
Yes, there is pretty much a constant need for merchandisers at Hallmark. The application page on their website is always accessible.
Do you need merchandising experience before you can be hired?
You can apply without experience, but having experience may improve your chances of being selected.
Of all the merchandising companies out there, Hallmark is one of the most popular. I've also read that they actually pay a little less than the others.
If you are OK with the pay and the work, this may be ideal for you if all you really need in a job is a flexible schedule. You can do the work more or less when it is most convenient for you to get it done.
How do you apply to do merchandising for Hallmark?
Go here to visit the job description page and to apply. Select “Part-Time Field Merchandising” to the left of the page to apply for this position.
Please keep in mind that even though they claim to be always hiring, there's going to be a chance that they won't need anyone in your area at this time.
If you apply and that is the case, just try again in a few months. Maybe something will have opened up. I also plan to review a lot more merchandising companies. There's plenty of these jobs out there to go around!
