Has this ever happened to you?
You are driving down the road, and you see a “help wanted” sign. You write down the number or better yet, you snap a picture of the sign with your phone and vow to look the company or position up later on one of those large job sites like Indeed.
Well, we all probably have. Now, wouldn't it be great to also get paid to snap those same pictures of help wanted signs, whether you were looking for a job or not? Now you can, using the Job Spotter app from Indeed.
What Exactly is the Job Spotter App From Indeed?
The Job Spotter app from Indeed allows you to take pictures of help wanted signs in your area and then submit them for approval and payment from Indeed.
Several blog posts ago, we discussed how to become an online recruiter at Indeed. However, in order to recruit, Indeed has to have jobs to offer. The main way Indeed is able to offer a variety of jobs in several different industries is by allowing companies themselves to post their open positions.
However, with this app you will be helping out your community's local businesses by snapping those help wanted signs and submitting them for the companies to Indeed. Many times small businesses are just too busy to post jobs on Indeed, so you are helping them out.
How Does the Job Spotter App work?
You go to either Google Play (Smartphone) or iTunes (iPhone) and select the app for download. Obviously, you will need to supply your name and email address to set up your account. Then after that, you will:
- Look through your town or city for any hiring signs.
- Submit a picture of both the hiring sign and the business establishment.
- Do NOT submit any pictures of people in the pictures.
- Send in your photos using Indeed's guidelines via the app.
- Continue collecting points after each submission via Google Wallet.
- Redeem your points for an Amazon or other type of gift card.
There may be times when you have to snap two separate pictures—one of the hiring sign and one of the establishment—if you cannot fit them into the same photo.
Once you create an account, you can also create a wish list of the many things you plan on buying with your gift cards. Many users stated that this helped keep them motivated to remember to snap those pictures while being out in the community!
What Does the Job Spotter App Look Like and Will It Freeze Up?
Surprisingly, it doesn't look anything like the Indeed logo. The app is green with a Canadian Mountie-style hat with a pair of binoculars below it. You will see it when you go to download it, but you might want to be aware that it doesn't resemble Indeed's logo.
There are reports that the last version, 3.6, does tend to freeze up more than previous versions. If you regularly use apps for extra cash, you have probably experienced this more than enough times in the past with other apps. Just be aware of it.
What Do Others Say About the Job Spotter App?
Google Play gave it a 4.3 out of 5-star rating and iTunes gave it a 4.7 out of 5-star rating on all versions. While most users like how easy the app is to download and use, the biggest complaint is waiting too long to receive payment.
Also, some users complained about Google Wallet and would rather use PayPal and get paid money instead of gift cards. But overall, most of the users enjoyed racking up points for gift cards and just routinely took their phones out ready to snap pictures when they ran other errands.
How Can Interested Individuals Sign Up for the Job Spotter App?
Just go to the website and click on the download button for either Google Play or iTunes.
Good luck and enjoy those gift cards.
