House Party is sort of like a product testing site, only instead of giving you just one product to test, they give you several products so you can share them with your friends/family at a “house party.”
How does House Party compensate people who participate?
Unfortunately, House Party does not pay you in cash — just the free products you will receive for hosting a party. I've listed them here even though they don't pay, because who doesn't like freebies?! House Party normally sends out enough items for 10-15 guests, and if you invite fewer people than that, you can either keep the extras for yourself or raffle them off at your party.
What do party hosts receive?
House Party will send you pretty much all the stuff you need to advertise a new product from a specific brand at your party. You might get party favors, goodie bags, and of course the product itself. They do not provide you with food and drinks nor do they reimburse you for buying food and drinks to serve at your party. House Party usually has different parties listed on their site to sign up for all the time.
You have to fill out an application if you want to host one, but they don't guarantee selection. They normally only choose 1000 people for each party.
House Party features well-known brands. For example, as of the date of this blog post, they are currently advertising house parties you can sign up to host through Bic, Expo, Redbook, and Fresh Wave. Clicking on the link to sign up for a party will give you a description of what types of things you'll get in return for hosting a party.
For example, as a Redbook party host, you get a nice tote bag, cosmetic cases, one-year Redbook subscription, makeup from L'Oreal, Seattle's Best coffee samples, Carolina Pad items, and lots more. So as you can see, House Party seriously hooks you up as a host.
How does a house party work?
Basically, you just invite people you know over to your house or wherever else you've decided to have your party and just distribute the free items so everyone can try them out. Then, take pics and video of the party to share with House Party. This is to prove that you actually had a party.
As stated above, they'll send you stuff for 10-15 people, but it's no big deal if you can only find a few people to come. You can do what you want with the leftover samples. House Party will help you with everything when it comes to planning your party, right down to printing out invitations and sending emails to your guests.
Does House Party have a referral program?
They do, but what you get for referring another person to House Party is pretty unclear. There's no cash incentive, they just say you *might* get some special offers or something like that.
Is House Party worthwhile?
If you like getting free stuff in the mail, then yes! A lot of people shy away from House Party because they don't want to put people they know on the spot by asking them to come to parties, but honestly it doesn't have to be like that. You can invite whoever you want.
If you live in a house with four or five other people, just have the party with your immediate family and take pictures. It doesn't have to be anything stressful. However, you'll probably find that people you invite are actually very receptive to the idea of coming once you tell them they'll get some free stuff! But you can stick to inviting only people you're comfortable with inviting.
There's no guarantee of selection, but there's no harm in trying. Chances are good that if you sign up, you will get selected to do parties on occasion. House Party states that you're much more likely to get picked if you are completely honest when answering screening questions on their party apps.
