Airbnb is a very popular online marketplace for finding vacation rentals. It also appears that they often have a need for freelance photographers worldwide to go around and take photographs of properties.
While this is not at home, it is flexible, independent work — something that a lot of people looking for home-based jobs require.
To be considered as an Airbnb photographer, you need to have an online portfolio showcasing examples of interior and/or architectural photography, so if you've ever done any neighborhood or real estate photography, this would be important to include.
They may consider applicants who do not meet that criteria provided their portfolio shows skill in composition, lighting, and technique.
The job listing does not state how much you're paid, but according to information I found on Glassdoor, the typical rate is about $100 per job, plus travel expenses. I can't find how they pay or what method of pay they use, but I did see where someone mentioned having to send an invoice to Airbnb to receive payment.
You'll be notified if there are jobs available in your area. It is up to you to work out arrangements with the host of the vacation rental(s) you'll be shooting regarding when the photo shoot will take place.
The job listing at Airbnb states that your assignments should not be more than 30 miles away from your location.
After you've done your shoot — which may take a few hours and consist of anywhere from 10 – 20 photos — you go back home and upload them to Airbnb and if they're acceptable, you'll be paid.
The Quora link I posted above has some good feedback. One person mentioned being satisfied with the work while someone else commented that the pay is not enough for what you do.
Many people feel that $50 per job is well below the industry standard for professional photography. It does sound like Airbnb pays on time, though.
Here is the link for the job listing. And again, this is open to photographers worldwide.
If you want to become an Airbnb photographer but aren't too confident of your photography skills, this is one of the highest-rated e-courses on Udemy for mastering real estate photography. And because Udemy frequently has sales, you can probably get it for way less than the listed price if you hunt down a coupon code.
