1-888-Type-It-Up is a company regularly hiring transcribers to work from home. They advertise 100 percent US-based transcription, so they are only open to hiring people who live in the US. From what I gather they may hire people who are fairly new to transcription, but you will have to pass a test in order to be considered. Your chances of doing well on the test are probably best if you’ve at least done some transcription work before.
The company handles general, legal, and also medical transcription. If you are unfamiliar with general transcription and what it entails, you can read this post for more detail.
How much does 1-888-Type-It-Up pay?
They do not list the rate of pay on their website. When you apply, you are asked to let them know your desired rate per audio hour or audio minute.
I did read on the WPLH forum that the rate you receive will depend on how well you do on the test. People who do poorly may make as low as $30 per audio hour, while some people claim they make anywhere from $40 to $120 per audio hour.
Is there a set schedule you must adhere to?
You have to commit to doing at least one audio hour per week if you are hired. They state that it’s best if you have at least four to eight hours per week of available time to do work for them to ensure you can stick to their minimum requirement.
Is there any equipment needed?
Like any other transcription company, 1-888-Type-It-Up does recommend a foot pedal. If you have one and know how to use it, you can work faster. The free transcription software, Express Scribe, is also recommended. Apart from those things, you just need a computer with high speed internet access.
This is a newer company, so there isn’t a lot of feedback out there yet from other people who are working for them. I did find this thread on WAHM where someone applied to 1-888-Type-It-Up and got a response back and was inquiring on the board about the company. 1-888-Type-It-Up responded and answered their questions.
You will want to visit the 1-888-Type-It-Up website and read the article they have posted about what makes a good transcriptionist to determine whether or not you should apply there.
