Sell Avon From Home – A Cheap Way to Get Started in Direct Sales!

Avon is one of the oldest, most well-known direct selling opportunities out there. Another plus is that unlike many other companies, this one is very inexpensive to get started with.

And Avon has recently made some big changes to help representatives get their business off to a great start this year.

What does it cost to start selling Avon?

It is FREE to sign up and sell Avon! There is no cost.

What is an Avon selling campaign?

The two week selling period supported by a brochure that offers customers different products 26 times a year.

What information will be required from me in order to establish my account?

As an Avon Representative, you will be given an automatic line of credit ($250-$300), as such they will require the standard personal information (Drivers License or State ID) that is requested whenever credit is extended, including your social security number.

All personal info provided is used to generate your line of credit amount. A credit check is NOT required to become a rep and your social security number is provided as proof of identity and tax purposes. It is also used for bonus checks and additional earnings if you decide to begin the Leadership program (optional and free).

How much does Avon pay you?

Your commission amount on sales depends on how much you sell. Currently, the amount is 25 percent.

Do you have to keep product on hand?

At Avon, you are never required to keep a stock of products on hand. You may find, however, that your customers have personal favorites that are helpful for you to have available for last-minute needs.

In addition, as a Representative, you are offered exclusive promotional opportunities to purchase products in advance. So you may or may not want to keep products on hand. It is completely your choice.

How often do you have to place an order?

Avon has 26 sales campaigns throughout the year. Each campaign reflects a two-week selling period marked by promotional offers and/or new product introductions.

Contacting your customers every campaign gives them the opportunity to purchase their Avon favorites, see new products, and take advantage of special offers.

You'll find that contacting new and potential customers on a consistent basis will result in your placing an order each campaign.

Orders are placed every two weeks and arrive 2 days later via UPS. You will place each order on your given amount of credit and pay your previous balance with each new order.

How do you receive future brochures?

Every two weeks, when you place a product order, you purchase your future brochures. Brochures are always ordered four weeks ahead so that you will have them in plenty of time to include them in your customer's orders and to share them with new potential customers.

Do you have to pay for shipping, or do my customers pay a shipping fee?

As long as you place your order on time, there is a one time shipping fee for you.

If you wish to receive an order at a different time from your regular scheduled delivery you have the option of receiving it for an additional fee. Shipping charges range from $5.95 to $10.95 and most frequently are $6.95.

You can sell through your personal website which you are given for FREE when you become a representative. Your customers can either order products that will be shipped to them directly from Avon or that will be included in your order for you to deliver to customers.

When a customer orders from your personal website Avon handles all shipments and returns on those orders. All you do is earn on direct delivery purchases from your website.

How do you pay for your order?

Payment to Avon is due two weeks after your order is shipped. This gives you time to deliver your orders and collect payment from your customers.

You can pay by check, money order, credit card, or online directly from your checking account using Avon Quickpay.

Are you required to attend meetings?

No, meetings attendance is not required. Avon offers extensive on-line training that you access 24 hours a day, seven days a week to enhance your business. Though you are not required to attend meetings, many representatives enjoy attending as they are much fun.

District managers of Avon do a wonderful job of providing free samples, selling tips and plenty of additional rewards for attendance.

Meetings within your district can be quite uplifting and really help you stay focused as well as encouraged to build your business. Group support is a great way to get each other motivated and stay excited about your new business.

Avon may hold group meetings in your area designed to share product training or program incentives. If so, you will be contacted in advance in order to add the event to your calendar.

How do you sell Avon? Are in-home parties required?

You are not required to have any parties. However, many Representatives find group selling to be a very lucrative way to sell more products, broaden their customer base, and build their team. If you choose to participate in group selling, Avon offers various training and support materials to assist you.

Can you sell Avon online only?

You can. Since you get a website with Avon, it's easy to do this — just direct people to your website.

You can also have Facebook parties and get your friends to invite their friends, do giveaways, etc. However, you still may find that getting out in your neighborhood and passing out brochures is effective, too.

Is it hard to sell Avon?

Avon is one of the best known brands in the world. Rarely will you run into someone who has not heard of Avon. If you follow the provided training by Avon, it will not be difficult.

How do you become an Avon representative?

In a few easy steps, you can become an Avon Representative and start your own business. Promptly after you sign up, you can go online, explore the product line, start your training, and sell Avon.

You may also build your personal website to sell products to customers and manage your business.

Within the next few days, the person you sign up under should follow up with you and offer additional personal training opportunities to ensure that you get your business off to a great start.

If a customer decides she doesn't want or like a product that she ordered from me, do you have to absorb the cost?

No! All Avon products have a full 100% guarantee, even if it has been used. Just return the item to Avon for a full refund or exchange.

  1. I was just wondering I live in Canada if I sign up online do I HAVE to meet with someone or do I just sign up and I’m started. Like it says an Avon rep will contact you what do they contact you for

    • I don’t know that they would actually meet with you in person, it would probably be more like a phone call if you hear from anyone at all.

  2. I was wondering if you can do sales/give people special prices with Avon? I know with some similar sites (such as Premier Jewelry) you can give a special price.

  3. I was told by the woman who signed me up that AVON is not extending credit to new reps. I recently signed up and even though I never had an issue with my AVON credit, they refuse to extend me credit. This has hampered my ability to serve the needs of my customers. I can see that it is taxing on the rep and the company to have to deal with returned items when a customer places and order and chooses not to pay for it. The rep has either paid for the items or needs to pay for the items. AVON then has to credit the rep for those items and restock those items. This is the price of business, so I guess not the price of business is having to cancel orders since payment is required upfront.

  4. Has something changed with how your order is paid. According to this post it says that they are given a line of credit. I signed up with AVON this month, sent my order in, then I received an email stating that I had to put down a deposit. When I contacted Customer Service, they said the DSM should be able to have my account reviewed. However, when I spoke with my DSM, she stated that they didn’t offer credit lines for new reps. But yet there is info posted on their site stating otherwise. I’m close to closing the account all together. Please clarify!!!

  5. Christinacuff, Whats your towns population? Mines is approximately 66,966 and probably higher as this was the number in 2012. So my point is, it doesnt matter how many other reps are in your area or even in your neighborhood…You have the ability to search for prospects anywhere in the US. ANYWHERE. In the whole United States! Avon gave you a free website when you joined right? People can order products from that website 24/7 from anywhere in the USA LOL and you dont even have to handle shipping those products or if a customer decides they want to return something, Avon does that for you too! Does Perfectly Posh do this for you?? Its just a matter of how hard and how far your willing to work. Do you think the lady down the street who is also selling in your same company is going to have already spoke to the person at the same gas station that you might stop at? Maybe not, because maybe she takes a different route and maybe gasses up somewhere else in town. Everyone has different ideas of how to gain new customers and i bet your ideas will be different then hers. Their are always plenty of people to go around and to think that another few representatives in your company have already taken all the good customers is just a little far fetched for me to believe. lol Every business takes time to build. Like a new born baby. You have to feed your baby daily, give it attention and put love and care into it. Nourish it so it can grow. 30 representatives in your zip code alone huh? Well they must be all doing something right and i doubt their fighting over customers. lol

  6. I was with Avon for a few months, spent more than I earned haha. My issue became there are over 30 representatives in my zip code alone. It was impossible to get a footing when there were already so many established reps. I’m now with Perfectly Posh which only has 6 reps in my area.

  7. Melissa & Coach Comeback, I’m sorry I didn’t see your comments till now. I’m in the process of updating the info you see above. If you have further questions please email me at [email protected]

Coach Comeback, I simply mean that if a Rep doesn’t place an order his/her account will eventually become inactive so to stay active its a good idea to place an on time order of $50 or more during every campaign. (on time meaning rep orders must be submitted every 2 weeks by a certain time per district so that Avon can distribute and ship accordingly, also so that each rep receives those orders within the next 2 days of submitting) Yet none of that is required and you’re not penalized for it in any way. Do you understand? If you become a rep then why wouldn’t you want to be ordering every 2 weeks if you are selling product or ordering for yourself? As a Unit Leader myself, obviously i don’t want to tell anyone that they don’t have to place an order every campaign because placing an order of $50 or more is exactly what i di want representatives to be doing. In fact they should be placing an order each 2 weeks well over $50 if they intend to be making any profit. Becoming a representative with Avon IS starting your own business and starting your own business means working at it to build it as you would with any business, i suppose. Please look for this post to be updated, I think you’ll find the new information much more helpful as many things have already changed since i first became a representative. For example, Avon no longer has just Mark Reps…we are now only Avon Reps but we do still sell mark products.

  8. Can you explain the minimum to stay active a bit further Trista? You said you have to make an “on-time” order every campaign…

    What does that even mean?

Are you basically saying you have to place at least one order every 1.5 – 2 weeks?

    Please elaborate.

    Thank you

    • to stay active you must place an order every 4 campaigns which is about every other month but once you get into it, it will be very easy to place orders every other week

  9. Some caviats:

Check with your neighborhood to make sure there is not already an Avon rep. in your area. If there is one, the odds of a new person selling is low.

If you want an Avon website (to sell via the internet), it costs $15 a month (unless there are special promos going on). Also, when you sign the contract, you are NOT supposed to create a website that is not on the Avon.com domain. Doing so can get you kicked out of being a rep if you are reported.

    • Melissa, Can you explain further by what you mean about this “Check with your neighborhood to make sure there is not already an Avon rep in your area. If there is one, the odds of a new person selling is low.” I don’t understand why if there is a rep currently in any one area that there wouldn’t be another or even many for that matter. Avon runs solely on its representatives. The more the merry! We all work together. Each rep has the opportunity to build their own teams. Those teams then can work together or branch off to start their own teams and so on. When you start adding to your team this is called Leadership. So the odds, as you say, of a new rep being in a area are low is false. The odds of a new rep being in any area are extremely high since many Avon Representatives are in Leadership. We sign new people up on a daily basis.

As for the $15 a month for a website, i don’t know where your getting that info. Seems to me that its old info. Or this price varies from district to district. My district is currently selling Campaign 6 while some are only just selling Campaign 4. This alone could make a difference. I am a current representative, I paid just $10 which included my kit and full website given to me by Avon. You are right about not creating a website that is not an avon.com domain (which i have not and don’t intend to) You can however link your avon.com site to anywhere you chose as long as your customers are redirected to your avon.com site. If you do a few random searches on Facebook or even just on the web you’ll find millions of Avon Representative online working from their own built websites that redirect back to their avon.com sites. It is perfectly fine. Avon has been around for so long that they understand the changing of technology and how people communicate. It more so the Avon has evolved and so have Avon’s representatives. Its all about growing.
Avon has large events all the time. Events for recruiting and selling which are open to the public free of charge to attend. If anyone is interested in attending one of these events contact me to find an even in your area! You can find my contact info above.

      • This info I got was first hand. I was an Avon rep. a few years ago (2009-2010). My mom was an Avon rep. while I was growing up too.

My personal experience was that if a neighborhood already had an Avon rep, they didn’t want to order from someone new. With my mom, she found out the District leader was in our neighborhood.

As for the website, when I was with Avon it was $7.50 per campaign (equals $15 a month) UNLESS you had a sale over a certain amt. (I can’t remember the amt. right now). When I ended my contract with Avon, they no longer had that stipulation. This was in addition to the $10 I paid when I started.

Yes, the info might have changed since I have been a rep. I still think it is good to ask plenty of questions before jumping into something. Avon is a good company IF you have the customer backing (no one could afford to buy when I was working with Avon).

The nice thing is the very low start up costs ($10 — which at the time included a couple of samples, Avon company info, and 20 campaign books (10 for current campaign and 10 for next campaign).

    • Melissa you are wrong on the cost of the web site, Avon does NOT charge for a the web site and hasn’t for quite a few years now! weather or not there is an avon rep already in your neighborhood or not doesn’t depend on your sales, there are multiple reps in my town & I sell over $20,000 in products last year and over 10,000 the year before and have only been with avon 2 1/2 years. I have been named the top recruiter in my district. It helps when you have a good leader and just dont go sign up under just anyone. want to join
