Hiring Now – Yardi Matrix Pays You to Conduct Rent Surveys From Home

If you're someone who can't apply for jobs to take calls from home because there is nothing you can do about background noise, then you might want to consider doing rent surveys for Yardi Matrix! This is a company that is totally OK with background noise and would in fact prefer it.

Why? Because they want the people on the other end of the line to believe that you're a regular person who might have loud pets, kids, etc. since you'll be asking various questions about rental property as though you might be interested in renting.

In truth, you're just gathering information for Yardi Matrix so they can ensure their information on various apartment complexes is accurate and up to date. There are different companies/organizations that have a need for this info, and Yardi Matrix provides it to them from what I understand.

How much does Yardi Matrix pay their workers for doing rent surveys?

Yardi Matrix recently changed their pay structure. It used to be $10 – $11 hourly, but now here is what the website says about pay:

Surveyors will be paid $6 per hour and a piece rate of $.50 for surveys marked Done, $.30 for surveys marked Wrong Number, $.20 for surveys marked Part-Done, and $.07 for surveys marked Answering Machine or No Answer. You will receive at least minimum wage in your jurisdiction for all hours worked; however, you can earn more depending on your speed and efficiency.

What about taxes?

This used to be independent contractor work, but now Yardi Matrix is actually an employee position, so you will not need to worry about your taxes as they will be taking them out of your pay manually.

At one point, they were offering benefits as well, but I am not sure if that is still the case. Their website doesn't currently mention it.

How much do you have to work?

The company expects you to have 75 completed surveys the first week you work, then 100 completed surveys each week after.

You can work whatever hours you would like, but you do need to be conducting the surveys when the apartment complexes are open so you can reach someone.

Also, this is a temporary position, lasting roughly six weeks, so you shouldn't count on it for the long-term.

Yardi Matrix does these surveys three times per year (January & February, May & June, and September & October). Once each work period is up, you can usually work during the next season if you reapply and note that you are a returning worker.

What are the job requirements?

You need high speed internet, good phone etiquette, and an unlimited long distance plan. You won't have to worry about doing any selling, so there's no need to have a background in work from home customer service or anything like that.

There is some training involved, but mainly you just have to ask basic questions. If you have a Voip phone line, that should be OK because I'm reading where a lot of people work using Skype.

How do you apply?

Yardi Matrix is currently hiring for their September/October rent surveys! This could be a great side-gig for you to make some extra holiday cash.

You'll have to take and pass a quiz and also send your resume to the Yardi Matrix contact person. You must also sign a non-disclosure agreement.

What do people say?

I have seen some complaints on various work at home forums about the low pay. But again, it could be a good side gig since hours a flexible and you could possibly work it around other things you do for income.

I haven't done this myself, but this may be worth your time if you feel confident that you could build up speed. It's also one of the few phone jobs available where background noise is a non-issue.

    I have been working for Yardi Matrix since September 2016. At first I was making $9.33/hr. My pay was never broken down into the piece rates of $.60 for “done” surveys, etc. But since minimum wage in my state was on $7.35, at the time, I still made more than that. This time around, the email I received stated that I would make $7.25/hr for Premium non OT.
    This is a very easy job, and while I am not having any luck finding something more permanent, getting paid weekly is wonderful!!!
    When I have doctors appointments, I make the calls from my minute phone and input the info on my smartphone!!!
    When at home, I watch shows, or apply to other jobs while making my calls, since I have developed my own repetitive dialogue.
    My sister also does this job while in her office at her main job, so you see it is very easy!!!

  2. I just wanted to thank you for the information. Getting set up is a little tedious, with all the emails and paperwork, but it seems like a pretty straightforward job. Today, I was able to listen to a handful of sample calls and watch as the surveys are completed for each property. That was very helpful. I start tomorrow. I won’t get rich, but I don’t have to leave the house and it fills up some spare time. Thanks!

I’ve been working for them for over 4 years now and since they changed over to where you are considered an employee instead of contract work, I don’t have to worry about coming up with taxes in April. They also have benefits if you want to participate in them. If you do work the way you should, you can make up to $15.00 an hour. I average about $12 to $13 an hour. I would make more, if I worked more hours in a week.

    Great job for SAHM, you will need to be creative when you make your calls and can be tedious work since you do make many calls. I make about 100 calls a week and thats working about 12 hours a week. Also, if your work is good during the 3 months, during the other months you could be asked to work on short surveys.

  4. Someone mentioned that it would be difficult to get the documents notarized in texas, is this true?

  5. I worked for them for a time. The three-times-yearly assessment is a breeze. Pay attention to what the questions ask. A calculator and careful reading will ensure you a passing score. During the first weeks of the survey, they will help nudge you along. Yes, you can make $11 an hour. Some surveyors earn more. (I routinely earned between $11-12 an hour, and above $10 an hour in the closing weeks and days when quotas became more difficult to secure.)

    That is where the “pro” stops and the “con” begins. The job becomes tedious. Their QA specialists report any and all errors you make to the admin dept. Any surveys they deem inaccurate and faulty will be cursorily adjusted and/or deleted from your quota. You are supposed to be paid for partially completed surveys, calls that don’t pick up (answering machines, etc.), and wrong (changed, disconnected) numbers, and they delete some of those, too. Don’t bother asking why, admin will grant you a response best categorized as “evasive.”

    If they feel you did something outside the parameters of their survey protocol, chances are they will release you. If your assignment is ended, you are ineligible for future assignments. There are many complaints from former employees that can be found online (do a simple search).

  6. I just started this today. Yes the application process was easy enough- the quiz really did help in making sure we understand the process… and I was relieved the pass. The I9 process was stressful because in my city in TN no one wants to notarize these… luckily there was a Select Staffing office in my area and they were able to fill out the I9. (They are the ones the program is actually run through). So far it takes some getting used to prying information from the rental agents (especially when a property has 15 different floorplans/rental ranges)- but I am looking forward to the extra $.

      I just wanted 2 let u guys in on a lil advice I received last week from Lynn @ Yardi. See, I was accepted about 7- 10 days ago to work and because Select staffing erred with my account info, I wasn’t able to start on Jan.3rd. Also, not knowing I was supposed to pay to have docs notarized, I sent an email saying I can’t proceed because honestly I was BROKE because of Xmas. Anyhow, Lynn immediately replied and said not to worry bout it. She mentioned that lots of public offices will notarize for free, but then said it was no big deal. A CPA, bank rep, lawyer, etc.could tAke care of it, but even a close friend or relative would be acceptable. Just as long as they know u r valid. Ha, that’s all I needed 2 hear! I just got my fiance to sign for me n didn’t bother with a notary. They accepted all my paperwork. No sweat!!

  7. I passed their test for the rent surveyor position in late December of 2014. However, as part of the lengthy on-boarding paperwork, out of state applicants are required to submit notarized proof of citizenship. In Texas, notaries are not allowed not verify the authenticity of your driver’s license or passport, so I wasted all of that time struggling over their test during the busy holiday season for nothing.

  8. I applied received an email with a site that had info on the company and procedures for surveyors. I was told to read over all the information (a 30? page pdf) and take a quiz ( 30 question?). I’m sorry, but was not worth the time to take and be told I failed. Very time consuming and confusing. The test and pdf are written horribly and very incoherent. They are taking a simple task and making it extremely complicated. Moving On.

  9. Hello Anna and Ty for a very reliable website and wah resources.. I sent them My resume today , My only concern is this ..doing these calls to housing renting company’s ,Is there call lists our phone numbers could land on or populate on ? this is the reason i hate doing online surveys or Mystery shop type gigs ..I wouldn’t want my phone ringing off the hook everyday with housing community’s calling me back ..Would anyone that worked for this company have any feedback on this ?

    • I have worked for them off and on. I used to block my number when I made calls off my regular cellphone. But some businesses will not take your call if your number is blocked, so thats when I used my extra phone that I got from Walmart. Sometimes it’s hard to complete 80 surveys and you only get answering machinces or no answer. But the job is a o.k. Also it’s best to set up a email address that you won’t use very often because they ask for your email address alot. And have a few fake names ready cause sometimes your are going to call the same apartment complex twice in one week. Sometimes I would say I’m calling for my brother or my son. Good Luck!

  10. Tia, I am sorry to hear that. I also failed twice earlier this year / June, I believe. I re-applied this month, and failed the first time again ! It was a close call the 2nd time, and they let me in. I sure hope it all goes okay after all of that !! Now I have to do a bunch of paperwork. I really do like phone research tho.
    Does anybody who worked for PE earlier this year have any advice/hints/help/tips/gripes ?

  11. I didn’t get the job. I failed the assessment. You cannot missed for the 4 questions. It was the biggest waste of time. I’ll apply to inbound phone jobs for hourly wage/

  12. I accepted a position from Pierce Eislen a couple weeks ago and they are still looking for a few surveyors. The hiring process was very easy. I sent a resume and they sent me a training manual along with an assessment. This took me about 3 hours and it was not difficult. The assessment just cements what you learned and is very well done. They also have some nice training videos. There is some employee paperwork and an I-9 that needs to be notarized at your bank. The job starts next week and I am looking forward to it. If I can refrain from talking too much, I think I can make $12 to $14 an hour. If I slack, I will still make minimum wage. It’s a heck of a lot easier than a lot of these phone jobs, (I prefer to call rather than be called), and I can work when I want and break when I want. You don’t need any special equipment; just fill out a form on-line while you ask for basic rental information. Here is the information from the manager:

    Arizona-based market research firm is currently accepting applications for our Spring 2014 rent survey. As a surveyor, you will call apartment communities throughout the US as a prospective renter to obtain current rental information from the comfort of your own home. The survey will begin Monday, May 5th and last approximately 4-6 weeks. Surveyors must commit to approximately 10-15 hours a week; however you may work more. High-speed Internet and long distance service must be set up prior to the start date. If you are offered work, you will be an employee of a temporary staffing agency placed on assignment with our company. You must be based in the United States to access our system. To apply and learn more about the position, please submit a current resume to [email protected].

    • I am not entirely sure … I haven’t seen where anyone has mentioned tweaking your resume to apply. If you have any phone experience, you might want to list that. It may be a good idea to ask this on the Work Place Like Home forum. They have an entire folder there dedicated to Pierce-Eislen with lots of people posting that actually work for them. They might know how you should approach the resume part. If you aren’t a member there, you can sign up for free and then read/post.

  17. The test is hard, plan to spend an entire day passing it the first time. It’s really only hard because it is poorly written and isn’t logical. There is an FAQ and a guide to study. They both contain different information. Instead of having one guide that tells you how to do the survey simply they want to make it difficult. The questions are meant to be tricky when in reality the actual job is simple.

    The work week is a lot more than they make it out to be. I am a fast paced person and am forced to work around 25-30 hours per week or I am cut from the project. The web site is always having errors, and you aren’t paid for down time.

    It’s okay for $11 an hour (if you can make that much) but I advise trying another place if you like to smile like I do. Plus it’s almost over and I haven’t been paid at all yet.

      • Yes, it looks like they recently changed their pay structure. Also, I noticed that this is now an employee position rather than independent contractor work. I made some updates above.

  18. I actually worked with them before. You can use any phone you want.

    As for as when they hire, they do the surveys every 3 or 4 months, and they last until the work is gone. Once your hired, you get first dibs to work the next season, or pass.

      The application information is on a WordPress page. I agree it looks a little strange, but I can assure you the company is 100 percent legitimate. To start, they want you to visit the links in the right-hand side of the page to read their guide and frequently asked questions. The link for the quiz you need to take is there.   21. I worked for Pierce a few years back-they have really specific questions and it was hard to get in touch with folks at the apartment complexes. Then those didn’t want to answer questions.
