Work at Home as an Online Instructor For Elevate K-12

If you meet the qualifications and are looking for a work from home tutoring job you can do during the day, working for Elevate might be ideal.

Founded in 2007, Elevate has a unique system where they match tutors to students to work together long-term in a virtual classroom because they feel that strong relationships build strong educational foundations.

The company has won lots of awards and are currently the #1 math resource choice for schools nationwide.

Working For Elevate K-12

This is primarily math tutoring although there are other subjects as well.

You work during the day, part-time, from your home with students that have been pre-assigned to you. The students are K-12. All of the work is done online in a one-on-one environment.

How Much Does Elevate K-12 Pay?

Elevate no longer discloses salaries in their hiring materials. In the past, the pay was $12 an hour. Based on anonymous Glassdoor reviews, it seems that you can now make as much as $20 per hour, but that probably isn't the starting rate.

Unfortunately, I cannot find information on how often they pay or what method of payment they use.

Are You Qualified?

You will need to have prior teaching and/or tutoring experience to get in here. You must have had 13 years of formal education (high school graduate plus at least one year of college) to be considered.

And as stated above if you are not comfortable with math subjects, then this probably isn't the job for you.

The Schedule

As far as flexibility is concerned, Elevate sounds really good.

The hours you work are during the day so you can schedule yourself anytime between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Also, you are allowed to set your own schedule here. Just let them know when you are available to tutor through the week and they will work around you.

Tech Requirements

There is no big long list of extensive requirements. All you need to do the work as an online tutor for Elevate is a computer with a reliable internet connection and a quiet environment.

Feedback

Elevate K-12 gets a solid 3 stars from Glassdoor. You will definitely want to read through those if you're interested in tutoring for this company.

Most people have good things to say, although I do see complaints about unpredictable scheduling and it taking forever to actually get your schedule.

But from what I can tell there are a lot of good things about tutoring for Elevate if you would qualify for it.

The hours are very flexible, the pay is OK, and I know that if I were interested in online tutoring,

I would love the idea of dealing with only one student at a time rather than a big group. Plus this is an established company that has been around for quite a few years now.

How Do You Apply?

If you want to apply, just visit their careers page here and follow the directions. They provide an email address you can use to send them your resume.

Good luck if you apply, and if you have any experience with this company your feedback in the comments below would definitely be helpful to others considering the work!

  1. This has got to be the most unprofessional company ever. The first time I interviewed everything was fine and I expected to be tutoring the subjects I did pass the test for. Nope! After the interview I got a message telling me I had failed all subjects (when it said I had passed online) and my scores were wiped away, as if I had not even taken anything.

Then, I waited their 30 days only this time to NOT have the interviewer show up for the interview. I emailed the company, documented in the classroom that I was there and a week later got an email telling me I had failed the interview. Umm… no one showed up!!!

I am SICK of being told I am NOT good enough to work at this company, even though I pass the tests , have a valid teaching license and have been teaching for 10 years, especially when I read online they have college sophomores working for them.

  2. I currently have been working for Elevate Learning K12 for about six months now. The job is a great opportunity to work with underpriveliged or struggling students. However, the website states that you recieve quality training to prepare you for teaching the students this quality training was a twenty min overview of how to click and navigate the online whiteboard. You only have 15 mins before each session to prepare for your lesson. If sessions are back to back you have no time to prepare. You can recieve plenty of hours and summer sessions. However to sit there waiting on students to log in for two hours and no one shows up and you only recieve now, $3.00 is quite frustrating. There are lots of errors within the teaching materials which makes it confusing for the students. I also had to sign a contract that states I am to recieve payment of 12$/ per 51-60 mins for 1-3 students and 14$ for 4-6 students. I typically teach 1 1/2 to 2 hour sessions which for that time According to my contract should receive $16/ hour per 1-3 students and $18 for 4+. I have had several two hour sessions which I am suppose to receive $22/ per 1-3 students and $24 for 4+ And all I have been paid is 12$/ hr. I just think its wrong that you sign a contract that says you will be compensated according to information I have stated above and you get underpaid. Very wrong. Also they are not very professional in the interview process nor the examination you are required to pass( there were errors within the examination!). Everytime I contact someone through email about money or a statement of my hours (which they do not give you at all) I never recieve a reply. Even the head manager of the AMPs never replied to my email but two weeks later I receive an email on a different subject. If you are willing to deal with all the crap and as well as being paid nearly a week after the scheduled date of on or before the 15th of every month, then the job is ok. But this company needs some serious improvements. I am also looking into legal matters on the issue of being underpaid. Good luck

  3. I work for Elevate K12. You don’t need a phone and you do not need a cam on your computer. The pay is $12.00 an hour. Bad thing is you must stay for the entire session even if no students show up and only get paid $2.00 for the whole session. The lessons are pretty good and you have more than enough to keep students learning throughout the entire session. They now have other subjects other than just math. I teach reading and it is a 1 to 3 ratio. Most of the time only 1 or 2 students show up. It is difficult to juggle 3 students online and teach them the lessons effectively. It is very flexible. The training I received was not very good and you kind of learn as you go along.

    • Thanks for the additional details, I updated some of the information above based on what you shared.

  4. Your site is certainly a great resource but, as I live in Canada in a fairly isolated region the choices appear pretty narrow. Do you know if Elevate hires Canadians? From what I can gather it appears doubtful and it would be nice to know before applying.

    • Jim, I don’t think they do but you can send them an inquiry to be sure before you submit your resume, etc. I don’t see anything on their jobs page indicating that they are or aren’t unless I’m missing it, but they are a US-based company so I’m betting they aren’t. 🙁

You can browse this page for some companies (various industries) that do for sure hire Canadians – https://realwaystoearnmoneyonline.com/2012/10/work-at-home-for-canadians.html
