The Active Network is a company that hires people to work at home, helping with sports reservation requests. This company is currently hiring now across several different states. See the bottom of the post for the complete listing of states.
It’s a seasonal position that will run from roughly May through early September. People with good performance may be asked to stay on permanently. The company will hire you as an employee and all the calls are inbound, so you aren’t doing sales or anything particularly stressful.
How much does the Active Network pay their home workers?
The rate of pay is not disclosed on the website, but I read a thread about the company on WAHM.com, and a former worker stated that the pay was roughly $8.25 per hour. I do not know if this is what everyone earns or if the pay varies depending on how long you’ve worked there.
Who can apply?
These are the requirements, taken from the job posting:
- Excellent communication skills with an ability to communicate remotely with your support groups by phone, email and instant messaging (IM)
- Solid computer skills including internet knowledge (such as basic searching and queries), IM, email, basic Microsoft Word & Excel, some basic technical terminology
- Must be organized and self motivated
- Minimum typing speed of 20 to 30 wpm
What are the tech requirements?
You will need a land line phone as well as high speed internet access. No wireless connections are allowed and for some reason Brighthouse is listed as a provider you can’t use.
The company will provide you with some equipment to do the job. They give you a headset, mouse, keyboard, and a mini-tower so your monitor is the only thing you’ll actually need.
What does the job entail?
You are taking inbound calls, setting up reservations for various sports organizations. A person on WAHM stated that the job was very easy and laid back and that it isn’t a customer service position but rather simple order entry, so you generally do not deal with irate customers. If you run into problems while you are working, it is very easy to get someone to help you via chat right away.
Before you start working, you’ll be trained. Training lasts for one full week and it’s all paid.
What is the schedule like?
You are required to work at least 32 hours per week, but the position is considered part-time. You almost must list yourself as available for at least one weekend day each week. The hours you work are not necessarily always going to be the same and are likely to change depending on when you list yourself as available.
How does the application process work?
If the Active Network is interested in you, you’ll be contacted for a phone interview. Apparently this is a pretty short interview and you’ll know at the end of it whether or not you have the job.
The feedback is pretty good. The only real complaint I see is over the pay. A lot of people aren’t happy with the hourly rate. Most of their past workers rave about how easy the work is and say the company is very nice to deal with overall.
