Even though I have a work at home job (or actually a few jobs), I still love earning extra money. And I guess that’s clear because I do often post ways to earn extra money on this site. However, there are a lot of things that are simply a waste of time, even for extra money. In my opinion, these five opportunities are well worth it (and also fun to use) if “real” extra cash is what you need:
PostLoop
I got active on PostLoop several months ago. This is paid forum posting. I enjoy PostLoop occasionally because the work is fun (I have always liked socializing on forums and this is a way to get paid to do that), the work is easy, and if you need your money today you can get it today if you’re able to accumulate $5. However, I have never been able to make more than $10 in one day on this site, and $5 is more the norm. Most of the forums you can post on have limits on how many paid posts you can do per day, and some of the forums are going to cover subject matter you just don’t have a lot to say about. So this is in no way unlimited money.
Slice the Pie
At Slice the Pie, you rate music you hear and then write short little reviews. I signed up a long time ago and thought it was fun, but I was really busy with other things and didn’t do much with it. I’ve started doing it more and more because it seems as if it’s paying better now (I average around .17 to .19 cents per song). If you’re new to the site, you probably won’t be making that much to start with because the higher your level, the more you can earn. So you’ll have to participate for a bit before your rate per song is that high. But after that, I feel safe in saying that this little site will pay you far more than answering texts on ChaCha.
Amazon Mturk
I used to think Mturk might be a waste of time, but not anymore. It actually is possible to find some tasks on there that are worth doing. In case you aren’t familiar, Mturk is a site powered by Amazon.com where you can sign up as a worker and browse through their massive list of short tasks to do. There is literally everything from transcription to writing, data entry, and everything in between. A lot of stuff you’ll find isn’t worth it, but if you keep looking you’ll almost always find a few that are. Payment is made either to your bank account once you have accumulated $1 or you can just use the money and spend it on Amazon. You only need one dollar to do that.
Humanatic
When Humanatic first appeared on my radar, I was really hopeful that it could be considered an actual income since the work is so much fun! Unfortunately, it is just extra money. But the good news is that this is “real” extra money — not just the change you’ll accumulate from taking paid surveys or playing around on GPT sites. Basically what you are doing is listening to recorded phone conversations and labeling them accordingly. There are different types of tasks you do. For example, on one you just have to determine whether or not the person calling is interested in actually doing business with the company they’re talking to. And keep in mind this is not phone work as you don’t have to talk to anyone yourself, all the conversations are recordings you just listen to. It is necessary to apply to work for this company just as you would any other work at home job, and then you have to wait to be accepted.
BoostCTR
BoostCTR is another great little earner. In fact, I think some people are actually able to earn a substantial income from this site but for me it is just something I dabble in here and there for extra money. You are basically writing short little ads for different companies. These are typically Google text ads and only consist of maybe 30 to 40 or so words. It seems overwhelming until you just dive in there and do a few, and after that it’s easy and fun. You don’t necessarily have to be a professional writer to do the work either — just capable of coming up with a good, short text ad. There is a formal application process to go through and you will have to wait to hear back to see if you got in.
You’ll notice that, although I have used surveys and GPT sites in the past myself, I did not list those here. I tried to stick to things where I believe it’s possible to make between $20 and $50 per week (or maybe more — I know that some people who do BoostCTR and Mturk are able to earn a lot more than $50 per week). If you are looking for ways to earn extra cash that pay quickly since a few of the companies listed above only pay weekly, please refer to this post.
So now it’s your turn. What do you do for extra cash that isn’t a waste of time? Do you use any of the sites I listed? Please feel free to share.

awesome!
Jess recently posted..How Much Did I Make In July?
I have done mturk, slice the pie (but I am still very new there) and boost. I have yet to try post and I have never been able to get on with Humantic although I would like the chance. So far I like all three, though it can take some time to make some decent money…but you have to just keep at it.
As far as Humantic I applied months ago, never heard back. I waited and waited for another chance to apply and when it finally opened up again I have had issues with the app. When I try to fill it out again it says I have already registered and to log in, but when I try and log in it does not recognize my e-mail ( I only use 1-2 emails and I have tried both to no evail). when I try and use the “forgot it” link I have to enter my e-mail but it says the e-mail is not in the system…very frustrating because I cannot log in and I do not know who to contact. If anyone has contact infor for Humantic, so maybe I can straighten in out I would appreciate it!
I also have to say that clickworker can be a decent money maker too, also paid weekly. At first that system confused me and I had no idea how to make any money, but I have made decent money once I figured it out. It is kind of like mturk but there are not as many jobs listed(unless you can pass some assessments) and it can be slim pickings at times(you can also be blocked from certain tasks if your rating is not high enough once you do a few tasks). I have also heard of a few lately that have had their accounts deactivated and they do not know why. I do think they are working on a few glitches in the sytem. However I would say clickworker is definitely one to try.
Great site with lots of ways to generate income online, thanks! Have a great day on purpose…
I usually just do paid forums for extra earning, but they are by invite only, and pay in Amazon certificates.
This is a great little list. I had heard of all of them except the last one. I have had luck with MTurk myself in the past. But, lately I have not had the time to drop in and see if there was anything that caught my attention.
I am signed up with 3 out of 5. I had applied with Humanatic and never heard nothing back. I haven’t really had time with the small gigs lately due to my daughter starting school, phone job & my small b&M demo job with The Pet Firm that is listed here has picked up.
For the Boost CTR job for ‘years of copywriting experience’ did you have at least 1 year, and if so how did you get this experience? Can you get in without copywriting experience?
No, I had no experience. I just put the minimum amount because I didn’t have experience. I also asked BoostCTR about this and they said copywriting experience isn’t necessary to get in.
Thanks for getting back to me, that’s encouraging news!
