New Task Site – MobileWorks

in Task Sites

MobileWorks task siteIf you like work at home on sites like Mturk or Clickworker doing short tasks, you may be interested to know there is a new site out called MobileWorks that is a little similar.

How much does MobileWorks pay workers?

As with most task sites, this varies depending on the tasks you do. All tasks pay differently. The site does say that the more accurate you are in the tasks you complete, the more you will make. It also says that with consistent accuracy, you’ll not only make more but also have the opportunity to become a manager in the MobileWorks system.

Your pay is entirely dependent on your accuracy, and this is checked by MobileWorks managers (something that, as stated above, you will have the opportunity to become if you consistently have high accuracy). If your accuracy is low, you’ll still get paid, but not as much.

How and when do they pay?

MobileWorks pays with Paypal, MoneyBookers, and are planning to add direct deposit as a pay option in the future. You do have to have $1 before you can cash out your earnings. You don’t get the money instantly when you hit that withdraw button. They have to manually review your request and say it can take 3 to 5 days. If you’re paid with Paypal, they do deduct a small fee from your earnings unless you have over $20 in your account.

What are the tasks like?

MobileWorks says it might be research, writing, tagging images, transcription, surveys, or several other things. You do not get to choose the tasks you do, they are assigned to you. Personally I’m not sure how I feel about that. I like picking out the tasks I want to do.

Who is eligible to apply?

They are open worldwide, but you do have to speak English no matter where you live and also be comfortable navigating the internet.

What is the sign-up process like?

It’s very easy. You just put in some basic information, go through their short tutorial, and then start some training tasks (they pay you a few cents for the training tasks).

What is the feedback like on MobileWorks so far?

This is a new site, so there’s not a lot out there. However, one of my readers, Beckie, left a helpful comment about MobileWorks on another post on this site. She has tried the site and also been paid. Here is what she had to say:

Hi!

I think this is the right place to post this. I found a site called MobileWorks. It is a task site, but I don’t know too much about it so far, other than I signed up. LOL. They do use paypal, and I think it stated they pay out at $1.00. I do think the site is fairly new. It is different in tasks in that instead of picking your hits like in Mturk or Crowdflower, you get one as soon as you finish one, and they will vary. For instance, I had one to fill in a name from a form, and the next was to find a company’s European address. You don’t pick what you work on, they just come to you as soon as you finish one. The tasks are different than on other task sites, and you get your accuracy updated every 30 minutes and you can see your questions and your percentage on them. I am not certain exactly what it pays per task, but usually it seems to have the amount listed at the top for what you get if it answered correctly. Your earnings show as cents, not as dollar amounts. For instance, mine currently show 49.85, but again that is in cents, not dollars. If you sign up you do have to do a tutorial, but as long as you follow directions and read carefully, it is really easy, and it’s paid for. Plus for each section it basically walks you through the first 3-4 questions and then you do about 4 on your own. It seems very easy to get to the $1.00 payout, so I am really hoping it is a legit site! Also, there seems to be no time limit for doing the tasks like some others have. Since I’m getting closer to the $1.00 payout, I’m going to see if I actually get paid. I’ll post back once I find out for sure. The only way I saw for referrals is to send emails at the end of the tutorial, so I’m not sure if there is a direct referral anything. Right now they only use Paypal and MoneyBookers though it says they will eventually have direct deposit available as well. If anyone knows anything about this site, please let me know. I’ll give the link if anyone wants to check it out for themselves. http://www.mobileworks.com/mobileworker/ Like I said, it seems pretty easy to get to the $1.00 payout, so if it’s a legit place, it should be easy to make a few extra dollars a day!

Hi! Just to update, I did get paid through paypal from Mobile Workers. They do take out a small percentage fee, and say it takes 3-4 days to get payment, but I received mine in about 2 days. So at this time they are paying, and are verified with Paypal as well.

There is also a thread posted about MobileWorks on WAHM. com, and some of the people in charge at MobileWorks have taken the time to read and comment on this post. This is always nice to see and gives me more confidence in a new company:

WAHM thread about MobileWorks

Income Potential at MobileWorks?

It looks like this is for sure an extra cash thing as some people are reporting that their rate per hour isn’t the greatest. You will have to just try it for yourself and decide if you believe it’s worth spending time on. I personally enjoying working on Mturk sometimes, so I have made an account here and I’m going to try it and see how I like it.

*Quick Update – I started my training tasks and was unable to see the image in the instructions. Not sure if it’s my browser (I’m using Chrome) or a problem with the site. I’m going to try another browser and see if I can see it then.*

Thanks for the write up on this! I had this site bookmarked for a few weeks and just never got around to setting up an account there.

I registered and got through the tutorial quickly, but then I was disappointed to see that the jobs were all the lower paying Crowdflower tasks that are already on MTurk. My experience with Crowdflower is the same as what the posters in the WAHM thread you linked were talking about, in regards to the QA and accuracy, so I tend to pass them over.

I’ll peek back in on the site after the holiday weekend is over to see if (hopefully!) they have other requesters who publish tasks. Thanks again for writing a review on this site!

Oh man – $1 limit before you can cash out your money? That’s usually a bad sign – i.e., that it probably takes forever to get there. And having tasks ASSIGNED to you? It always leaves a bad taste when a company that pays very little wants to assign specific work to me. ArticleDocument tried to do something similar by asking me to enlist in a particular writing program (sending assignments out every Monday by 10 a.m. to be completed within a 24 hour timeframe).

I guess this is legit, using Paypal is a guarantee, I know if the employer don’t pay, Paypal is responsible.

I also tried this. I do not like that the tasks are assigned to you and that you do not have the option to skip it. I was assigned tasks that were impossible to do and of course the type of task I did not want. I was assigned to visit the url of a company and search for the developer of that specific company and that persons direct e-mail account. They would not accept the companies info e-mail. Only the developers e-mail. None of the sites had that! They expected me to search the internet if I could not find the information on the companies website. I tried to do that for a few of them to see if I could find the info. If I did find the developer then the e-mail address wasn’t found. All of the time spent looking for something that wasn’t there was a huge waste! On top of that, some of the sites assigned were not in English. To make matters worse, they have a workers chat right there while you are working so if you run into a problem you can ask someone. Great right? Wrong! The people that were in the chat did not speak English and the ones that did were acting like they were 2 years old by posting nonsense and were of no help! At this point I was ready to pull my hair out so I logged out. I did send them a message about all of this and have not heard anything yet. Needless to say, I doubt I will go back unless they make some changes there. I will stick with Amazon Mechanical Turk. At least there you can choose which task you want to do.

I don’t like the assigned task thing either, Jenn. Sorry you had a bad experience.

It is a new site, so maybe they will work to improve things over time.

I’m Philipp, part of the MobileWorks team. Thanks you all for the feedback. I want to let you know that we are currently working on an update to allow users to choose from a list of projects. Our goal is to provide users a system in which they like to work in and which pays out a fair wage. If you have any additional feedback, feel free to contact us under support@mobileworks.com.

Hi Anne, firstly can I say what a great site. Since I decided to go semi-retired the thought of earning a little extra cash at home was quite appealing and I browse your site regularly for new companies.
Reference to MobileWorks I signed up with them a couple of weeks ago and the site seems to be totally dead, although you will still get signed up??.
The tests are still available but not reviewed until you have completed 5000 tasks??. Many workers are complaining that literally months have passed with-out any of their tests being reviewed. The “live” workers chat seems to have the same comments on it that I read over a week ago, all of them unflattering and totally negative. Also the time of post (on chat) seems to be set to give the impression that they were made a few minutes ago. i.e. 11.56, 12.01, 12.20.
I have left a couple of posts on it to see what happens, or if they remain on chat. No emails sent by workers seem to have been answered, including one I sent myself.
I will continue to check it to see if things improve but on the face of it signing up just doesn’t seem worth the effort.

Thank you for the update. I kind of wonder if MobileWorks is going belly up? I guess time will tell. :(

Hi Anna, just an update on my comments on Mobileworks. I went back on the site this morning, there were a few people on chat that did actually appear to be chatting. Most of the feedback though was still very negative although one or two did say they earnt from it, most were complaining of no work or no payment.
I have now completed around 90% of their test pieces and am going to check back to see if any work materialises. Although how this should make a difference if they are not reviewed until 5000 tasks have been completed is a bit of a mystery.
