Get Paid to Pick Out a Company Name

Get Paid to Pick Out a Company NameNot sure how much real earning potential exists here, but it sounds like it could be fun! Naming Force will let you enter contests to pick out the perfect name for different businesses, companies, and domains. Every contest on the site has a cash award offered to the person who can pick out the best name. If you’ve ever tried to name something, then you probably know that it’s no easy thing to do. In fact, I have struggled and struggled to come up with names for the different websites I’ve started. Something that seems like it should be so simple can literally take hours or even days! So that’s why there are people willing to pay others to do it for them :)

How much will Naming Force pay you if you win a contest?

Actually, you can win quite a bit! Check this out:

So, if you are lucky enough to pick the client’s favorite name, that’s a little more than pocket change. Obviously there’s not guarantee you’ll win, but it might actually be fun anyway to spend time on.

How do you get paid?

Naming Force only pays with Paypal. And you don’t have to worry about their client using your name and not paying you because they are actually required to submit payment up front before they even start their naming contests. So if you win, you’ll get paid because Naming Force already has the money from the client to give you.

Can you do this if you are outside the U.S.?

Unfortunately, no. They say that for tax reasons they can only allow people from the U.S. to participate. However, Prizes.org is another site that is similar in many ways that allows people from outside the U.S. to register.

What about taxes?

You do have to fill out a W9 if you want to start naming. Since the prizes are so large, there’s a good chance it would be something that would need to be reported on your taxes if you won more than a handful of times, so I understand why they make you do this.

What I Think

I don’t know how good your chances of winning would be, but if you like to name stuff, it could be fun — and if you’re good at naming stuff, you might win. I know that some people do have a gift for coming up with names.

Naming Force sounds like it depends on crowdsourcing, which is not my all-time favorite way of making money. In general, crowdsourcing places many individuals up against each other for the same resource, that being a single pot of cash. One lucky winner gets the pot while the others simply waste their time and efforts trying to win it. Also, many of the individuals with the really good ideas get ignored because someone else came along and got really popular with his/her idea, regardless of whether that idea was even that good.
